Edinburgh, St Andrews and the Kingdom of Fife, and the Highlands beyond Aberdeen: castles, distilleries, coastal paths and the back roads, planned by a family with Scottish roots.
My mother is a Craig, Scottish and Irish, so Scotland is part of our family’s proud heritage.
It became part of our lives in a new way when my daughters went to university here: Gioia at St Andrews and Gemma in Aberdeen. I visited often, and those years let us know St Andrews, Fife and Edinburgh intimately, and gave us the chance to explore the Highlands: the paths, the castles, the distilleries, the back roads and beyond.
Gioia now works with me at Time & Tide, so we plan Scotland together, from experience rather than a brochure.
“We know where to find the best fish and chips in Scotland, and which castles and back roads are worth the detour.”
Ask us about St Andrews, Edinburgh and the Highlands as we know them: what’s hype and what’s heart.
St Andrews and Fife. The home of golf, a medieval university town and the fishing villages of the East Neuk along the coast. We know it the way families of students do: the walks, the cafés and where to stay.
Edinburgh. The Old Town and New Town, galleries and history at every turn, and the quieter streets beyond the Royal Mile.
The Highlands. From Aberdeen we explored the paths, the castles and the distilleries, and learned which back roads deliver the views without the coach tours.
Heritage journeys. For families with Scottish or Irish roots, a journey can be built around places that hold meaning for you.
Hype or heart. Some famous stops deserve their reputation. Others are better swapped for a castle you have to yourselves or a fish supper by the harbor.
A castle hotel, a long walk on the coast, a dram by the fire and roads with almost no one else on them.
Castles, coastal walks, wildlife and history, and for families of students, university visits to St Andrews, Edinburgh and Aberdeen planned by a family who has done it.
Scotland pairs beautifully with London and the Cotswolds by rail, or with a heritage journey across the Irish Sea.
Tell me how you hope to travel, and I will design a Scotland journey around you: the castles, the coast, the Highlands and the places we love most.
