Switzerland Was Home for a Decade

I am a naturalized Swiss citizen and lived in Switzerland for a decade, in Zurich and Basel, where I raised my daughters. I speak German and Swiss German, so I talk with hotel managers, chefs and guides in their own language.

In Basel I worked at Chez Donati, my father-in-law’s celebrated restaurant and a favorite of artists during Art Basel. That is where I learned the quiet, discreet service that luxury travelers expect.

Today I am a Certified Swiss Travel Expert, and I was quoted in Forbes on multimodal travel in Switzerland: trains, boats and mountain railways in one seamless journey.

The Switzerland I Know

Switzerland is one of the few places where extraordinary scenery and effortless logistics go hand in hand. Trains meet boats, boats meet mountain railways, and your luggage can travel ahead without you.

Zurich and Lucerne. Lakeside grand hotels, old towns and galleries, and the easiest start to any Swiss journey.

The Bernese Oberland. Interlaken, Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau above you.

Zermatt and the Valais. A car-free village beneath the Matterhorn, mountain dining, and some of the finest skiing and hiking in the Alps.

St. Moritz and the Engadin. Glamour in winter, wildflowers and lakes in summer, and the start of the Bernina Express to Italy.

Lake Geneva. Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux, with the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards terraced above the water.

Ticino. Italian-speaking Switzerland: palm trees in Lugano and Locarno, and Lake Maggiore continuing south into Italy.

Basel. Art, architecture and Art Basel, minutes from Alsace and Germany’s Black Forest.

The scenic trains. The Glacier Express, the Bernina Express and the GoldenPass, planned with the right seats, the right direction and time to stop along the way.

Couples

A suite above a lake, a private boat across it, fondue by the fire in a car-free village, and the Glacier Express with a glass of Swiss wine. Switzerland is made for honeymoons and milestone trips.

Families

Short, beautiful train rides, cable cars, lake swims, dairy farms and gentle hikes, with family suites and a pace that leaves room for everyone. I raised my daughters there, and I know what children love.

Multigenerational

Hotels with connecting rooms, trains instead of long drives, walks for every level and luggage sent ahead, so grandparents and grandchildren share the same views in comfort.

Winter in the Swiss Alps

I lived in Switzerland for a decade and speak German and Swiss German, so I plan Alpine winters the way locals know them: ski-in, ski-out chalets and grand hotels in Zermatt beneath the Matterhorn, glamour in St. Moritz, and Eiger views in Grindelwald. I arrange private ski guides and instructors, helicopter or private car transfers, scenic trains like the Glacier Express, and quiet, cozy mountain dining when the day is done.

Whether you are an active couple or a multigenerational family, I shape each day around your pace: big mountain days for some, spa time and village strolls for others.

Through Virtuoso and preferred partner programs such as Rosewood Elite, the Mandarin Oriental Fan Club and Small Luxury Hotels of the World, my clients receive extras such as daily breakfast, hotel credits and room upgrades when available.

A Swiss Alps Journey for a Family of Five

Two parents, three children and ten days. They wanted the Alps at their most dramatic and real adventure for the children, without hauling suitcases through train stations or rushing from hotel to hotel.

I based them in just two mountain villages: four nights in Grindelwald below the Eiger, then four in Zermatt below the Matterhorn, finishing with two nights in Geneva. Days were paced for every age: the Glacier Gorge and an alpine playground, zip lines and mountain carts at First, and a visit to a working farm in Gimmelwald. A private guide led the big mountain days at Schilthorn and Gornergrat.

They rode the scenic GoldenPass train between the mountains while their luggage traveled ahead to the next hotel, and Swiss Family Cards meant the children rode the trains and mountain railways free. To finish, there was a day in Annecy by private car and a visit to CERN.

“You were amazing to work with, both during the planning process and while we were actually in Switzerland. We had such a wonderful experience, and we’re absolutely planning to use you again for our next trip.”
